Our Focus

We develop next-generation nano- & micromaterials and state-of-the-art synthesis procedures  for applications in defense, medicine, agriculture, and climatology. 


Historically, we pioneered methods for creating cell-based biosensors capable of performing under extreme environments, including outer space.

Our Expertise

More recently, we have invented materials & methods: 

  • That enable cold-chain-free transport of vaccines, therapeutics, reagents, and environmental samples
  • That facilitate inhalational (e.g., dry powders) and oral (e.g., tablets) administration of various biologically-active compounds
  • That show promise as nanoparticle delivery vehicles for in vivo applications

Our Approach

We use biomimetic, self-assembled materials that leverage synergistic properties of bio/nano interfaces to stabilize biologicals for cold-chain-free applications.


We have also adapted state-of-the-art nano- and micromaterials synthesis procedures to make them amenable to physiological processing temperatures and automation.

STABILIZATION OF REAGENTS AND VACCINES

  • Four SNAP systems currently running in parallel yield up to 100k doses/week
  • Parallelization, automation, and remote operation simplify scale-up
  • No need for continuous, expensive production of sensitive liquid reagents 
  • Encapsulated materials can now be stored dry for up to one year with no loss in activity
  • We also offer biostabilizing hydrogels for rapid archiving of live cells to replace or backup your cryo stocks

BIOSTABILIZATION FOR CELL-BASED DEVICES

  • Self-assembled thin films are used to stabilize live cells
  • Thin films can be applied to devices before or after cells are introduced
  • Cell-directed self-assembly (CDA) combined with evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA) enable stabilization of suspension cell lines
  • Cell-directed integration (CDI) enables stabilization of adherent cell lines
  • Thin-film coated swabs can stabilize complex environmental samples for several months without cold-chain
